The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council, through its Central Testing Laboratory, has announced the launch of an advanced testing service, the first of its kind in the country, to measure and analyze the levels of natural and added sugars in juices and sweetened beverages using the world's most advanced scientific technologies. The Council stated in a statement yesterday that this strategic step is taken to support the Federal Tax Authority in implementing the excise tax on sweetened beverages, ensuring its accurate, transparent, and fair execution. The Council noted that the Central Testing Laboratory provides high-precision testing services that serve as a reliable scientific foundation, enabling regulatory bodies to implement policies and regulations effectively, giving the industrial sector accurate assessment tools to help with compliance, and enhancing consumer confidence in the quality of products available in the market.
«The launch of this advanced service strengthens the national quality system and enables regulatory bodies to implement policies professionally and accurately through a laboratory infrastructure that provides reliable scientific data to support decision-making,» said Fares Ghareeb Al-Shamisi, Acting Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council.
He added: «The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council reiterates its commitment to providing leading laboratory services that enhance society's trust in product quality and support the industrial sector in improving its products to meet public health and competitiveness requirements».
Meanwhile, Abdullah Hassan Al-Maini, Executive Director of the Central Testing Laboratory, said: «The Central Testing Laboratory has developed a precise and reliable testing system that enables fast scientific results to support regulatory bodies in implementing the excise tax, and allows the industry to improve its components with clarity and transparency. We are proud that the laboratory is a key partner in enhancing community health and enabling a national economy based on trust between regulatory bodies, the industrial sector, and consumers».
The new service is of particular importance as it represents a technical and objective support for a tax decision that has wide economic and health dimensions, guiding consumers towards healthier choices and pushing companies to redesign their products to reduce sugar content.
